According to an announcement from the Shanghai Lingang Special Area Administration today, Tesla is planning to construct a new Megafactory in Shanghai that will solely focus on producing Megapack, the energy storage product of the company.

According to the initial plans, the Megafactory will have a yearly production capacity of nearly 10,000 units of commercial energy storage batteries and an energy storage scale of approximately 40 GWh. The products will be available to the global markets.
The factory is scheduled to start construction in the third quarter of this year and put into operation in the second quarter of 2024.
