Mercedes unveils new electric platform for upcoming vans

Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce a new battery-electric vehicle platform, VAN.EA, in 2026. This platform will underpin all future mid- and full-size van models and allow the company to offer luxury vans in the US for the first time.

The VAN.EA platform consists of three blocks, including a front block housing the electric powertrain, a center block for batteries, and a rear block available in two versions—one with an electric motor for all-wheel drive and one without. The private luxury vans (VAN.EA-P) will have a range of over 310 miles (500 kilometers) and will feature Level 2 automated driving technology at launch, with Level 3 planned by 2030. The commercial vans (VAN.EA-C) will prioritize functionality, range, cargo space, and payload capacity, and will also have Level 2 automation initially, aiming for Level 4 by the end of the decade.
