NIO Launches Updated EC6, a smart electric coupe SUV

NIO has introduced the latest addition to its lineup – the all-new EC6. This launch signifies NIO’s transition to the latest NT 2.0 platform, leaving behind the older NT 1.0 models.

The all-new EC6 starts at RMB 358,000 ($49,200), marking a premium of RMB 20,000 ($2,750) over the starting price of the new ES6, which stands at RMB 338,000.

NIO chose a unique approach for the EC6’s launch event, showcasing it in a personalized manner, similar to how a NIO staffer would present it to a family customer. The event featured an introduction by NIO’s founder, chairman, and CEO, William Li.

The EC6 measures 4,849 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,697 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,915 mm. It shares design elements with other NT 2.0-based models and features LiDAR and camera systems on the roof.

Under the hood, the EC6 is equipped with dual electric motors manufactured by NIO’s electric drive systems division, providing a maximum power of 150 kW and 210 kW, enabling a top speed of 200 km/h. These specifications align with the new ES6, ET5, and ET5 Touring, with NIO’s pricier models boasting more powerful motors.

The EC6 is available with two battery options: a 75-kWh standard range battery pack starting at RMB 358,000 and a 100-kWh long-range battery pack priced at RMB 416,000. Customers opting for the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model will pay a starting price of RMB 288,000, with monthly rental fees of RMB 980 and RMB 1,680 for the 75-kWh and 100-kWh battery packs, respectively.

In contrast, NIO has accelerated its product launch-to-delivery cycle this year, with EC6 deliveries commencing today, a day ahead of the previously teased September 16 date.

While the ES6 remains a cornerstone of NIO’s offerings, the EC6 represents a step towards offering more personalized options to its customers.
